Septeto Santiaguero

Septeto Santiaguero is a Cuban latin group from Santiago de Cuba. It is regarded as one of the leading traditional music acts in the city and in the eastern Cuban region.

Style and performance

The group is known for its stage show, which includes choreography as well as live performance. Its repertoire is mainly self-composed, and its songs are noted for their energy, particularly in guarachas with montuno sections. The group has three lead singers, which gives it a wide range of vocal textures.

Recordings and repertoire

Septeto Santiaguero records with Nubenegra and has five albums with the label. Its release Los Mangos Bajitos contains 14 new original songs and is presented in a live style, aiming to sound as if performed on stage. The group also writes its own material and avoids relying on covers on that album.

Reception and influence

The group’s songs and choreography are taken up by younger acts from Colombia to Miami. It tours in Europe and the Americas and is associated with a distinctive son sound. In Santiago de Cuba, it performs regularly in local venues.
