Selvhenter

Selvhenter is a Copenhagen-based Danish noise rock and avant-garde jazz group active since 2007. The band is an all-female experimental ensemble that draws on extreme noise, free jazz, creative rock and free improvisation to build a heavily distorted, high-energy sound. Its music uses horns amplified through large amplifiers and foot pedals, alongside two drummers, creating a dense and forceful texture.

Line-up

Selvhenter consists of Sonja LaBianca on saxophone, Maria Bertel on trombone, Maria Diekmann on violin, Jaleh Negari on drums and Anja Jacobsen on drums.

Background

The members come from several Copenhagen experimental projects and groups, including Pinkunoizu, Havens Fugle, Chimes & Bells, Gud Er Kvinde, Valby Vokalgruppe, Kirsten Ketsjer and Choir Of Young Believers. The band appears at both jazz and rock festivals across Scandinavia and is associated with Copenhagen’s experimental music scene.
