Self Inflicted

Self Inflicted is a name used by more than one band.

Self Inflicted from Mechelen

This Self Inflicted comes from Mechelen and describes its music as true Biest Metal. The band starts in 1997 and adds an extra solo guitar in 1998, becoming a five-piece. After a few shows, it begins writing about its home town, using local history, legends and sagas in its lyrics.

In 1999 the band records its first demo CD, Upon The Ruins Of Machal…, and plays many shows. After the singer leaves, the group goes through a difficult period with several line-up changes, but continues to perform and builds a loyal following. In 2002 it records new songs in Rotterdam, though the results are not kept for release. The band also appears at underground summer festivals, including the first edition of Kleudde alongside acts such as Aborted and Mortifier.

In 2003 Self Inflicted records its second demo CD, The All Seeing Eye, and plays more gigs. Reviews appear in magazines such as MindView and in online zines including deathmetal.be. Guitarist Steven leaves in 2005 and is replaced by Joeri, whose style and influences shape the next material. In November 2006 the band records Modraneth, marking ten years of existence. Joeri leaves in 2008 to join Fireforce, after which the band continues as a three-piece and keeps developing its heavier sound.

Self Inflicted from Hertfordshire

The Hertfordshire band forms in 2005 in Royston, England, originally under the name Evolution. The first line-up includes Heidi, Dom and Jon, with Chris Borsberry on bass and Ben Langridge on guitar. In 2006 Borsberry moves to Thailand to tour with a major artist, and Brendan joins at his recommendation. The band then changes its name to Self Inflicted because Evolution no longer matches the heavier music it is writing.

This line-up records its first demo at MA Studios in Norwich. By early 2007 the band is playing regularly across the South East of England. Langridge later leaves for a non-musical career, and Steve Wallace, a guitar tutor, replaces him. The band supports The Answer and Gizz Butt, and performs at the first Summer Explosion Festival in Hertfordshire in front of more than 1,000 people.

In 2009 Jon Terrell leaves because of illness and Brendan Judd leaves because of musical differences. Igor Mihailov joins on drums, while James Marinos adds keyboards and backing vocals and Mike Lewin joins on bass, both from Wake Of Myetsa. These changes lead the band to experiment with samples and death metal vocals. The band later records a two-track EP with drummer Steve Clark, but internal tension follows, and the line-up breaks apart with the departures of Steve Wallace, Steve Clark, James Marinos and Mike Lewin.

Thrash punk band

A third Self Inflicted is a thrash punk band that begins in 1998, formed by members of Progeria, Bad Acid Trip, Bred On Deception and Strains Of The Apocalypse.
