Season of Ghosts

Season of Ghosts is a metal group from Tokyo and London, active since 2013. It forms around vocalist Sophia Aslanidou and has a j-rock and metal sound with electronic elements, drawing on East and West influences. The group is based in London.

Formation and members

Season of Ghosts begins in Tokyo in 2013. Sophia Aslanidou founds the project after working as the former vocalist of Blood Stain Child. She is born in Caracas, Venezuela and grows up in Thessaloniki, Greece before moving to Japan in 2010. The group later includes the orchestra conductor and multi-instrumentalist Zombie Sam, and its listed members also include Lordt on drums and Steward Ireland on bass.

Releases

The debut album, The Human Paradox, appears in 2014 and is mixed and mastered by Ettore Rigotti. It is released worldwide on Coroner Records and in Japan on Howling Bull. The follow-up album, A Leap of Faith, arrives in 2018 and shows a more mature sound and visual style. It is recorded, mixed and mastered at Fusix Studios.

Singles and later activity

In 2022, the group releases the singles The Great Unknown and In Hubris; the latter is played by BBC Music Introducing. A later single, LIFELINE, is released in 2025. The group is also working on a new album.

Live work and collaborators

Season of Ghosts performs across Europe and the United States, headlines festivals and conventions, and appears with acts including Therion, Xandria, Sirenia, JUPITER, BRIDEAR and Yousei Teikoku. Sophia Aslanidou also gains attention for collaborations outside the band and becomes one of the more noted female vocalists in the Japanese metal scene.
