Scroobius Pip

Scroobius Pip is a spoken word and hip-hop artist from Stanford-le-Hope, born in 1981. He has a background shaped by a speech impediment, and he describes developing an interest in words after recognising their value and power and listening to other wordsmiths.

Career

He records with Overview, Rosco Illa and Emonomy, and he also works with dan le sac in the duo Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip. Their collaboration includes the track “Thou Shalt Always Kill” and the album Angles. The pair gain exposure on XFM and receive airplay on BBC Radio 1, and they headline the Festival Republic stage at Leeds Festival 2008.

Other activity

Scroobius Pip also releases music through his indie label Speech Development, including Distraction Pieces. That release reaches number 7 in the UK iTunes chart and number 35 in the UK Top 40. He is also described as driving around the country in a gold space cruiser and receiving a nomination for beard of the year from Save the Shave Monthly Magazine.
