Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery is an American country singer from the United States. Born in 1993, he wins the tenth season of American Idol in 2011 and builds a recording career in contemporary country music.

Career

His debut studio album, Clear as Day, appears in 2011 and is certified platinum in the United States. It includes the country songs “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble with Girls”, both of which reach the Top 20 on the country chart. He follows it with the Christmas album Christmas with Scotty McCreery in 2012, which is certified gold, and his third album, See You Tonight, in 2013. The title track becomes his first single to reach the Top 10 on Billboard’s country chart.

In 2017, his single “Five More Minutes” sets a Country Aircheck/Mediabase record by charting without the backing of a record label; it later reaches number one on Billboard in 2018. His next album, Seasons Change, appears in 2018 and becomes his fourth Top 10 album in the United States. “You Time” is released in 2020 as the first single from his fifth studio album.

Background and personal life

McCreery graduates from Garner Magnet High School in 2012 and attends North Carolina State University in Raleigh, studying communications. He is Christian, and he says his childhood listening includes Merle Haggard, George Jones and Conway Twitty, while Elvis Presley is his greatest musical influence. He is one quarter Puerto Rican and does not speak Spanish fluently.

He is an avid sports fan, particularly of the Carolina Hurricanes, the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the NC State Wolfpack. He sings the national anthem before a Patriots AFC divisional game in 2016 and blogs for Major League Baseball during the 2013 season. He becomes engaged to Gabi Dugal in 2017 and they marry in North Carolina in 2018.
