Scott McWatt
Scott McWatt is a contemporary folk singer-songwriter from Glasgow. He writes songs in a solo folk style after first spending time in rock, metal and indie bands. His songs draw on personal experience and on a strong storytelling approach.
Early life and influences
He starts writing songs and lyrics at the age of 14, but does not own a guitar or know how to play one until he is 18. As a child, his family cannot afford to buy him a guitar, so he receives one from a friend, who he later plays in a band with. He teaches himself guitar with encouragement from his grandmother.
His influences include Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams, as well as literary figures such as Robert Burns and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Career and releases
McWatt releases two albums. His first album, Jekyll and Hyde, appears in 2012. He then follows it with the concept album A Ceist Ama, which receives a warm response from listeners. He has also played in locations from Ireland to Estonia.
