Scott Diaz

Scott Diaz is a Brighton-based DJ, producer and remixer working across house music. His sound draws on disco and funk, deeper peak-time styles and mid-1990s US garage, and he uses his own remixes, unreleased edits and mixtools in DJ sets. His productions and performances sit in a blend of deep, disco and jackin’ grooves, with a soulful house emphasis.

Career and releases

He builds his career over a decade as a DJ and producer, with work spanning the wider house spectrum. His discography includes releases on ITH, Defected, Hed Kandi, Nervous, Soulfuric, Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse and Purple Music. He also sets up the label connect:d as a home for his own productions and co-productions.

Diaz gains particular attention in 2012 through his remix of Gabrielle, which is a co-production with Matt Jam Lamont and spends more than four consecutive weeks at number one on Traxsource. That remix also becomes one of the top-selling tracks of the year. Other notable reinterpretations include Lovebirds’ Want You In My Soul and Hardsoul’s Back Together, the latter helping to strengthen his standing in the house community.

Recognition and collaborations

His productions appear frequently in year-end lists, with Traxsource and Stompy featuring 22 of his tracks in their Best of 2012 selections. He appears on compilations alongside artists including Cajmere, Maceo Plex, Pirupa, Subb-An, Crazy P and Sandy Rivera, and his music is played and charted by DJs such as Grant Nelson, MK, Gramophonedzie, Miguel Migs, Sonny Fodera, Tony Humphries and Gene Farris.

Grant Nelson also names Diaz’s remix of Lovebirds’ Want You In My Soul as one of his favourite remixes. Diaz provides guest mixes for Grant Nelson’s Housecall, Anthony Angell’s Essential House and Global Dance Session, which are syndicated to a large worldwide audience.

DJ work and style

As a DJ, Diaz plays in club and festival settings in Ibiza, Portugal, Amsterdam, Russia and the USA, and he tours in North America and Mexico City after appearing at Miami WMC. He plays alongside house DJs including Mark Farina, Ron Carroll and Jay-J. His later work focuses on original vocal tracks and songs, and on a deeper, more organic house sound in both his productions and sets.
