Schoolboy's death trio is a jazz rock project built around Schoolboy, who develops a set of songs concerned with impermanence and change. Before forming the trio, Schoolboy tours and plays with a heavy funk outfit, then brings in two musicians from that group on fuzz bass and percussion, along with a Welsh drummer, to create the Death Trio. The name reflects the thematic focus of the music.

Style and themes

The group combines tough hip-hop rhythms, dirty fuzz bass, saxophone and punk-influenced rap poetry. Schoolboy’s writing centres on the idea that nothing lasts forever, and the project rejects a conventional “9 to 5” approach in favour of creative work across several forms.

Other artistic work

Alongside music, the trio works with visual art, poetry, film and performance. It also uses characters and roles such as The Banker, War and The Freedom Lovers as part of its presentation.
