Scarlet

Scarlet are a UK female vocal duo from Kingston upon Hull, active from 1992 to 1997. The group consists of Cheryl Parker and Jo Youle, with Joanne Fox also listed as a member before she leaves the line-up prior to the band’s wider commercial breakthrough.

Career

The duo’s first UK hit is Independent Love Song, which reaches number 12 in 1995 and appears in the film Bed of Roses. It is followed by the album Naked, which reaches number 53 in the UK album chart. Their second UK single, I Wanna Be Free (To Be With Him), becomes a minor hit at number 21, while Love Hangover reaches number 54. In 1996, the single Bad Girl also stalls at number 54.

Later release and split

The group’s second album, Chemistry, does not enter the UK top 75. After that commercial decline, WEA drops the band and they go their separate ways.

Scarlet are identified as an indie pop, pop rock and soft rock act, and are sometimes tagged with metal-related genres in error.
