Scampi
Scampi is a German a cappella band with an origin in Germany. The name is taken from a character in the animated series La famille pirate. The project presents a French-language identity in the biography, but the group is identified as German and as an a cappella act.
Style and material
The act performs homemade versions of well-known songs and works in an anti-folk vein. The repertoire mentioned includes songs associated with Lily Allen, Beirut, Kid Cudi, Regina Spektor and Coldplay. The material is presented in a stripped-back format, with ukulele accompaniment and informal, home-recorded presentation.
Activity
The project is active from September 2008. It gains attention through videos shared on YouTube, where it builds a substantial following, and through its Facebook presence. The interest extends beyond France and leads to early performances in Belgium.
Live performances and collaborations
Scampi gives its first concerts in Belgium, including dates in Liège and Brussels, and later plays several times with Sharko, including during a Flat Session in Belgium and at the Fil in Saint-Étienne. On stage, the act also performs original compositions.
Line-up and presentation
The biography describes Scampi with Sheldon on ukulele and refers to Morgane as a 17-year-old performer. The project is associated with a playful visual image, including a hat and a blanket-covered, intimate performance setting.
