Sax Appeal

Sax Appeal is a Manchester-based UK jazz group led by Derek Nash. It forms in 1980 and remains active, with the verified genre of jazz and a sound that is often described as jazz/fusion.

The group usually performs with a line-up built around five saxophones, supported by bass guitar, piano and drums. For particular pieces or sections, some of the instruments are exchanged with some of the saxophones, giving the arrangement a flexible character.

Its repertoire is mainly original material. Most pieces are written by Derek Nash, although the group also performs compositions by his father, Pat Nash, as well as by other composers. Although it originates in Manchester, the band now plays mostly in London and also appears regularly at jazz festivals and other gigs outside that area.
