Sandkings

Sandkings is a name used by more than one band, including a Wolverhampton group and a garage surf-punk project from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Wolverhampton band

The Wolverhampton Sandkings consist of Jaz Mann on vocals, Glenn Dodd on guitar and backing vocals, Dave Brown on bass, and Terry Kirkbride on drums and backing vocals. They play catchy, jangly indie pop. Their first single,

"Rain"

, appears in 1988 with a different vocalist. The band releases a number of singles, one EP, and one album,

"Welcome To England"

, which appears in 1992. Two further singles also appear in 1992 before the group breaks up because of musical differences between Jaz Mann and the rest of the band. Jaz Mann later forms Babylon Zoo and achieves major chart success with

"Spaceman"

, which reaches number one in more than 20 countries. The Sandkings back catalogue is deleted for many years, and the band has a small dedicated fan base online.
