Sammy Dread

Sammy Dread is a Jamaican reggae singer and producer, born Stewart Farquaharson, associated with roots reggae and rub-a-dub styles. He is known as one of the early reggae artists to adopt dancehall, while keeping a hard-edged vocal approach.

Career

He records as a solo artist and also works in collaboration with other reggae musicians. His solo catalogue includes the minor hits “Talk It Over” and “Trying To Conquer Natty Dreadlocks”.

In 1980 he records Stereophonic with Philip Frazer. His later album Road Block appears in 1995, and its title track is later covered by London-born, United States-based vocalist and rapper Shinehead.

Collaborations

Dread’s most notable work comes through collaborations with Sugar Minnot, Black Roots and InI Oneness.
