Samaris

Samaris is an Icelandic electronic group formed in 2011. It works in downtempo, electronica and trip hop, and its sound is described through clarinet-led instrumentation, vocals and electronic production.

Line-up

The group consists of Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir on clarinet, Jófríður Ákadóttir on vocals and Þórður Kári Steinþórsson on electronics. Jófríður Ákadóttir is also known as JFDR.

Early activity and releases

The band forms in January 2011 and wins the Icelandic Music Experiments, a battle-of-the-bands competition, only a few months later. In the summer of 2011 it releases Hljóma Þú, a three-track record that receives a strong response in Iceland and wins the Kraumur Award in 2011.

Style

Samaris combines clarinet, voice and electronic textures in a style associated with space, atmosphere and a melancholic tone.
