Sam Outlaw is a country musician based in Los Angeles and identified with Southern California country. He is originally from Aberdeen, United States, and was born in 1982. His stage name comes from his mother’s maiden name.

Outlaw writes original songs that aim to reflect classic country music. He draws on singers including George Jones, Willie Nelson, Gene Watson, Don Williams, Keith Whitley and Dwight Yoakam.

Career

He emerges as a relatively new artist in the country scene, with 2014 described as a key year in his development. That year, CMT premieres his first music video, and a second video becomes widely shared in the Americana community after appearing via The Bluegrass Situation. Attention around his self-released EP and live shows across Southern California leads to performances at major events including Stagecoach Festival in the Coachella Valley, Music City Roots in Nashville, and AmericanaFest.

Angeleno

His full-length album Angeleno is produced by roots music figure Ry Cooder. The recording features a group of Los Angeles musicians, including Bo Koster of My Morning Jacket, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Gabe Witcher of Punch Brothers, Danny Garcia of Reverend Baron, Jeremy Long on pedal steel, and Joachim Cooder on drums and co-production. The album is released in 2015.
