Sam Doores is a New Orleans-based musician, songwriter and producer. He works in country, americana and related styles, and is associated with The Deslondes, Jackson & The Janks, and Sam Doores & The Tumbleweed.

Career

Doores co-runs Mashed Potato Records, a label operated from his living-room studio. The label focuses on a lo-fi recording approach and issues compilation albums that bring together local and touring musicians from the New Orleans scene.

He also works as a collaborator with other artists, including Hurray for the Riff Raff. His musical outlook is shaped by the New Orleans tradition and by admiration for Allen Toussaint, whose approach to songwriting, production and collaboration influences Doores’s own practice.

The Deslondes and related projects

Doores is part of The Deslondes, a band named after Deslonde Street in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. The group grows out of an earlier project, The Tumbleweeds, which later develops into The Deslondes. The band’s sound draws on traditional country, folk and New Orleans R&B, and it becomes part of the 2010s americana scene.

He is also connected with The Tumbleweed, and his work includes solo material alongside his band projects.

Solo work

Doores releases a self-titled solo album in 2020. It is recorded across New Orleans, Nashville and Berlin with German producer Anders “PC” Christophersen, and it incorporates vintage European pop and psychedelic folk alongside folk and rock elements.
