Salad

Salad is a London-based British alternative rock band active from 1992 to 1998. The group forms around vocalist and keyboard player Marijne van der Vlugt, guitarist Paul Kennedy, drummer Rob Wakeman and bassist Peter Brown, with later membership also including Charley Stone and Jon Hunt.

Formation and early line-up

Marijne van der Vlugt meets Paul Kennedy while they are both at film school, and she already knows Rob Wakeman from the house where she is living. The four find a bassist and initially form a group called The Merry Babes before becoming Salad. Van der Vlugt sings lead vocals and plays keyboards.

Releases and chart success

The band’s first album, Drink Me, appears in 1995 and reaches number 17 in the album charts. The group tours extensively across the UK and Europe around this period.

Later years and split

Salad’s second album, Ice Cream, does not sell as well, and the band splits in 1997.
