SAINt JHN is a Brooklyn-born, Guyana-raised rapper, singer-songwriter and model. Born in 1986, he grows up between Brooklyn and Georgetown, Guyana, and his background shapes much of his work. He comes from a Christian household, with a father described as a hustler, a mother who is a preacher, and an older brother who raps. He cites Jay-Z and Beenie Man among his early musical influences.

Career

SAINt JHN begins his career writing songs for other artists before moving into releasing his own music. He writes records for Usher, Kiesza and Gorgon City, among others, and then steps away from ghostwriting to focus on his own work. His first project as a solo artist is Collection One. He later releases his fourth studio album, Festival Season.

Style

His music draws on hip hop, R&B and Afrofusion, with a sound that is often described as genre-fluid. He says he makes the music he wants to hear rather than fitting into a fixed category. His work is associated with emotional, atmospheric songwriting and themes including love, joy and sorrow.

Recognition

SAINt JHN earns two Grammy Awards and builds a large international audience. He is also associated with the label HITCO.
