Sad Society

Sad Society are a punk group from the United Kingdom, formed in Edinburgh in 1982. They emerge from the joining together of several bands active on the punk circuit at the time: Area 12, Pressure Point and Radar.

Name and style

The band take their name from a headline in the Edinburgh Evening News that reads “We are living in a sad society”. Their music is described as fast, tuneful punk in the style of the late 1970s.

Releases and line-up

Sad Society release several 7-inch singles and a CD album, (The Best Thing Since) Hand Relief. The group have many line-up changes over the years, but vocalist Deek Wilson remains a constant member. The current line-up also includes Euan Ballantne on guitar, a bass player listed in the band’s line-up, and Andy McCombie on drums.
