S U R V I V E
S U R V I V E, often styled as Survive, is an electronic band formed in Austin, Texas, in 2009. The group consists of Michael Stein, Kyle Dixon, Adam Jones and Mark Donica. It works in styles associated with witch house, experimental electronic music, darkwave and synthwave, and is known for synth-heavy compositions that draw on horror-score influences.
Releases and soundtrack work
The band uses drum machines and analog synthesizers across singles, EPs and albums. It also contributes to soundtracks, including the independent horror film The Guest. Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon later create the original score for the Netflix series Stranger Things, which brings the group wider recognition.
Awards and other projects
The two soundtrack volumes for Stranger Things are each nominated for the Best Score Soundtrack category at the Grammy Awards in 2017, although neither wins. Stein and Dixon also receive an ASCAP nomination in 2017 for their soundtrack work. That same year, the band curates the music for Sensory, a multi-dimensional immersive restaurant experience at Sugar Hill Mountain Festival in Melbourne, Australia.
