Ryan Beatty

Ryan Beatty is an American singer-songwriter, producer and actor from Clovis, California. His work is mainly in pop and R&B, and he is also associated with indie pop.

Career

Beatty begins posting cover versions online in 2009 through his sister’s YouTube account, then launches his own channel in 2011, where his videos attract a large audience. Later that year he releases his debut single, “Every Little Thing”, which reaches the iTunes Pop chart, and in 2012 he issues his debut EP, Because of You. The EP includes “Hey L.A.”, which appears in an AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign commercial featuring Beatty, and it reaches number one on the US Pop Album Charts on iTunes and number seven on the Top Album Charts there within a day of release.

In 2013, Beatty tours as an opening act on Cody Simpson’s Paradise Tour. He later leaves his initial management and separates from his first label, leading to a legal dispute that delays new music until 2016. That year he returns with “Passion” and “Stay Gold”, and also comes out as gay.

Beatty works with Brockhampton in 2017, contributing backing vocals to “Queer” from Saturation II and “Bleach” from Saturation III, as well as vocals on “Sugar” from the group’s fifth studio album. “Sugar” later gains attention on TikTok.

Albums

His first studio album, Boy in Jeans, arrives in 2018 and includes the singles “Bruise” and “Camo”. He later tours in support of the album. He begins work on his second album, Dreaming of David, after finishing Boy in Jeans; he releases the singles “Dark Circles”, “Patchwork” and “Casino” ahead of the album, which appears in 2020. A planned US tour in support of the record is later cancelled because of social distancing measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, Beatty releases his third studio album, Calico, preceded by the single “Ribbons”. The album is issued alongside a short film of the same name, which contains music videos for its first three songs. It is received positively by critics, who describe it as a major artistic step and some of his strongest work.

Later activity

Beatty stops using social media platforms in late 2020, then clears his Instagram page in 2023 before announcing new music. He later schedules the California in Every Color tour, with dates in North America and an international leg.
