Ry x is the stage name of Australian singer-songwriter and producer Ry Cuming, who is from New South Wales, Australia, and was born in Angourie, NSW. He works as a solo artist and also appears as part of The Acid and Howling. His music is associated with folk, indie, indie folk and singer-songwriter styles, while the verified genre listing also places him across breakbeat, breaks, dance, deep house, downtempo and drum and bass.

Career

Cuming starts writing music at 16 after hearing Jeff Buckley’s album Grace. He later moves to Los Angeles, California, and signs to Jive Records. His self-titled debut album appears under his real name, Ry Cuming, and his song “Let Your Spirit Fly” is included on the soundtrack of the 2006 film Hoot.

He briefly tours with Maroon 5 as an opening act in select venues. He is also the first artist signed to the Stockholm-based label Dumont Dumont.

Releases and projects

Ry x releases the Berlin EP after moving to Los Angeles; it is issued on 12-inch vinyl and digitally. His second album, Dawn, follows, and Unfurl is released later. His self-titled debut album predates these releases and appears under the name Ry Cuming.

Band work

In 2014, he becomes the lead singer of The Acid. He is also associated with Howling.
