Rukhsana Merrise

Rukhsana Merrise is a singer-songwriter from London, associated with alternative folk, folk, indie pop and singer-songwriter music, and also described as working in British indie, R&B, pop and alternative soul. She grows out of the west London scene.

September Songs

In September 2014, Merrise sets herself the challenge of writing, recording and releasing one song each week across the month. That project becomes the September Songs EP. The EP is released only on SoundCloud and goes on to reach more than a quarter of a million plays.

Radio support and live work

The attention from September Songs brings Merrise to the notice of Communion, the record label and promoter, as well as BBC Introducing. BBC Introducing adds her track “So They Say” to the Radio 1 playlist in June 2015. She tours the UK and Europe with Bear’s Den and supports Jack Garratt, Laura Mvula, James Bay and Leon Bridges.

Merrise appears at Glastonbury, Somersault and Bushstock.
