Rugosa Nevada
Rugosa Nevada is a Sweden-based DJ, producer, and songwriter. The act is also described as originating from the United States and as being born in 1991.
Background
Rugosa Nevada forms in July 2008 in Derby and presents an alt-rock sound said to recall early U2. The project is described as a four-piece band with a sound that gains attention in the East Midlands music scene.
Recordings and radio play
The first demo is recorded in May 2009 at 2fly Studios in Sheffield with producer Alan Smyth, who has worked with Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, and Richard Hawley. The demo is posted on MySpace the day after it is completed. The track “Haunting” quickly becomes Track of the Week on BBC East Midlands Music and goes on to be one of the most requested tracks on BBC Radio Derby, Nottingham, Lincoln, and Leicester’s music show The Beat.
In summer 2010 the act records a two-track EP featuring “Until Bleeding” and “Moira Brown”. Both tracks receive major airplay on BBC Radio and are played more than 30,000 times on MySpace.
Live work and festivals
Rugosa Nevada plays nearly a hundred shows and festivals and appears on BBC East Midlands and BBC 6Music radio. The success of the debut demo leads to a first festival slot at Y-Not Festival, where the band plays to a record crowd. The act later returns to Y-Not Festival and also plays the Summer Sundae Weekender. It is also booked for Hockley Hustle Festival in Nottingham.
