Ruby Haunt is an American group from Los Angeles that works in alternative rock, dream pop, indie rock, new wave, pop and slowcore. The project begins in 2015 and was originally known as Haunt. It is formed by childhood friends Wyatt Ininns and Victor Pakpour.

Early development

The duo writes its first three EPs while studying on opposite sides of the West Coast, with one based in Los Angeles and the other in Portland. They exchange musical ideas over email and develop the project as a self-produced collaboration. During this period, the group receives support from Nowness, Track + Field Records, C-Heads Magazine and a range of YouTube channels.

Albums and sound

Ruby Haunt releases its debut, Hurt, in 2015 and continues with a style built around melancholy dream pop and slowcore. In 2016 the pair move to Los Angeles and write Sugar together in a small ocean-front house in Laguna Beach, California. The album is self-released and includes collaborations with photographer Henrik Purienne and the film duo Wissa for a Roberto Cavalli campaign in Vogue Italia.

Style and approach

The group keeps a DIY approach across its work and uses hushed vocals, expressive guitars, slow-building arrangements and a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Over time the music develops while staying close to its introspective core. The group is also associated with an expanded edition of Sugar, titled Sugar (Deluxe).
