Ruadh

Ruadh is a Scottish atmospheric black metal project active since 2018. It is based in Glasgow and is the work of musician and composer Tom Perrett. The name is pronounced “Roo-Ah” and translates as “red”.

Background and style

The project draws on history, culture and mythology, with an emphasis on creating atmosphere. It is described as a one-man project, with Perrett writing and composing the music himself. Ruadh is associated with atmospheric black metal, black metal and folk metal.

Name and origins

Perrett grows up in one of Scotland’s oldest burghs, whose name translates as “the red glen”. The origin of the town’s name is unclear, although one theory links it to Reuther, an ancient king of the Scots who rules between 213 and 187 BC. The project title reflects the Gaelic word for “red”.

Label and debut album

Ruadh signs a worldwide deal with Northern Silence Productions, a German label. Its debut album, Sovereign, is released on the label in physical and digital formats.
