Rozalla

Rozalla Miller, known professionally as Rozalla, is a dance and house singer from the Copperbelt in the United Kingdom, born in 1964. Her work also sits in euro house and eurodance, and she is associated with the 1990s rave era and female vocal performance.

Early career

Rozalla first appears on the Zimbabwean music scene in the 1980s after moving there from her birth country. Her early singles perform well locally, and English producer Christopher Sergeant later takes her to London in 1988. She lives there afterwards, with Sergeant acting as her manager.

Breakthrough and chart success

Her breakthrough comes with Everybody's Free (To Feel Good), which reaches number 6 in the UK singles chart in 1991 and later reaches number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song becomes her signature track and brings her wider international recognition.

Her debut album is titled after the song and also includes the UK Top 20 singles Faith (In the Power of Love) and Are You Ready To Fly. She later records the title song for Carlito's Way, I Love Music, which also charts in the UK Top 20 and the US Hot 100 in 1994.

Later releases and collaborations

Further British chart entries follow with Baby, This Time I Found Love and You Never Love The Same Way Twice. Her second album, Look No Further, is released in 1995.

In 1996 she releases a remix of Everybody's Free, which enters the UK Top 40. Her third album, Coming Home, follows in 1998, and its lead single Don't Go Lose It Baby becomes a club hit but does not chart in the UK.

She returns in 2003 with Plastic Boy on the trance single Live Another Life, which peaks at number 55 in the UK. In 2005 she releases a new version of You Never Love The Same Way Twice, while Are You Ready To Fly is remixed by Northernbeat. Her track All Or Nothing also becomes a club hit in 2005.

Later projects

Under the name Rozalla Miller, she releases Brand New Version in 2009. The album includes eight new tracks, plus covers of Paul Weller's Broken Stones and Pete Doherty's For Lovers, and a jazz-influenced remake of Everybody's Free. The record has a more mellow jazz and soul sound.

She also supports Billy Ocean on a 41-date UK tour in 2009, performing with her band and material from the album. She appears at jazz venues including The Jazz Cafe and Pizza on the Park.

In 2014 she releases Can You Feel The Love, and in 2015 she returns to the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart with If You Say It Again.

Recognition and profile

Rozalla becomes widely known as the “Queen of Rave” because of her club success. She also works on Michael Jackson's Dangerous tour, opening all of his performances. In May 2009 she becomes a patron of the charity All Star Kids.
