Royal Treatment Plant

Royal Treatment Plant are an alternative rock and indie rock group from London, United Kingdom, led by singer Paula Steel. Steel moves to London after growing up as the daughter of Seventh Day Adventist preachers in New Guinea, and there meets bassist DJ. The pair form the band with keyboardist and guitarist Tom Farncombe and drummer Chris Hodges, later completing the line-up with guitarist Sam Taylor. The group also uses the acronym RTP.

Releases and recording

Jamie Watson, known for his work with Snow Patrol, releases the band's Carry Me EP on Edinburgh label Human Condition Records. That release leads to a management deal with Light Music Network. Royal Treatment Plant then record their debut album with producer Teo Miller, who has worked with Placebo and Blur. Their first single, Undercurrent, is recorded with producer Mike Chapman, who also mixes two additional tracks for the album.

Hope Is Not Enough

The debut album, Hope Is Not Enough, is released in late 2008. It receives support from radio, television and the press, including favourable notices from NME, Gigwise and Rockfeedback. It is named Album of the Week on Huw Stephen’s BBC Radio 1 show and is nominated for Debut Album of the Year 2008 on XFM. The song Half As Much is played on XFM, BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music, while the Undercurrent video appears on MTV2. Undercurrent is also named NME Radio Single of the Week and BBC 6 Music Single of the Week.

Later activity

The success of Hope Is Not Enough leads Universal Music to license the record for Australasia in 2009. By August 2010, the band begins recording a follow-up after signing to UK indie label Tip Top Recordings. The track All The Same is used as the title music for Channel 4's On Track, and the next single, All That's Left, is remixed by RAC, Dan Donovan and Dan Cat.
