Rose Cousins

Rose Cousins is a Canadian singer-songwriter working in folk and bluegrass. Born in 1977, she is from Prince Edward Island and is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Career

She begins releasing music in 2002, issuing two EPs before her debut full-length album, If You Were for Me, appears in 2006. The album brings a nomination for best solo artist at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. In 2007, she wins the Mountain Stage Newsong Contest. She also receives best folk recording honours from the Nova Scotia Music Awards and the PEI Music Awards, and Female Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards in 2008.

Albums and releases

Cousins follows If You Were for Me with The Send Off in 2009. Luke Doucet produces the album, which includes guest appearances by Kathleen Edwards, Melissa McClelland, David Myles, Jenn Grant and Tom Wilson. In 2012, she releases We Have Made a Spark, a nine-track album with two bonus tracks. Zachariah Hickman produces the record, with engineering by Matt Malikowski, Sean Cahalin and Roni Pillischer. It is released on her own label, Old Farm Pony Records, which also releases The Send Off and Miles to go.

As a guest musician, Cousins appears on albums by Grant, Joel Plaskett, In-Flight Safety, Two Hours Traffic, Matt Mays, Catherine MacLellan, Jill Barber, Matt Epp, Old Man Luedecke, Ruth Minnikin, The Olympic Symphonium and Craig Cardiff. She also performs live with Royal Wood, Daniel Ledwell, Rose Polenzani, Anne Heaton and Laura Cortese.
