Rompeprop

Rompeprop is a Dutch goregrind band from Eindhoven, formed in 1999 and active from 1999 to the present. The group begins as a threesome with Jores du True on drums, Dirty Dr. Dente on guitar and Steven Smegma on gargling, with the aim of making party-oriented goregrind with heavily downtuned, vomit-style vocals. The band’s line-up later develops after bass player Micheil the Menstrual Mummy is found at Fuck The Commerce Fest in 2001.

Early years and live debut

The band plays its first try-out in 1999, but its proper start follows the addition of Micheil the Menstrual Mummy. Rompeprop’s first gig takes place in September 2001 at the Dynamoclub in Eindhoven. After this show, the band signs a small record deal with Dismemberment Records.

Releases and development

The group’s first release is the Menstrual Stomphulk MCD, which appears in February 2002 and sells out within three months. Fan mail and wider attention increase the band’s profile over the following year. In March 2003, Rompeprop releases its first full-length album, Hellcocks Pornflakes, on Bizarre Leprous in the Czech Republic, and this record brings the band its breakthrough. Other labels then show interest in releasing later material.

Line-up changes and touring

Steven Smegma later leaves because he can no longer combine his job with the band and has health problems. Before leaving, he completes the studio recordings for the band’s third CD, a split release with Tu Carne titled Just a Matter of Splatter. After this, the remaining three members rehearse again so they can continue performing live as a trio. Their first show in this line-up takes place at the Just Killers No Fillers Fest in Germany, after which the band begins to build an international live presence.

Style and influences

Rompeprop is associated with goregrind and rock and roll, and is also tagged as grindcore and pornogrind. The band draws inspiration from Utopie, Gut, Impetigo, Haemorrhage and Negligent Collateral Collapse.

Other notes

The band is invited by Mortician to join their USA 2004 tour. Dirty Dr. Dente remains the named member in the current line-up information provided.
