Rome

Rome is a Luxembourgish dark folk, martial industrial, neofolk and post-industrial group active since 2005. The project is led by Jérôme Reuter and develops from his work as an industrial and folk songwriter. Patrick Damiani and Νίκος Μαυρίδης are also members.

History

The project begins in late 2005 as the main outlet for Reuter’s songs. In 2008, Damiani becomes an official member. In 2009, Μαυρίδης joins on violin to help shape the group’s sound, which the band describes as chanson noir.

Later in 2009, Μαυρίδης leaves to answer military service, while Damiani becomes increasingly occupied with his own recording studio work in Germany. The project continues with Reuter at its centre and new touring members.

Sound and themes

Rome’s earlier recordings combine industrial and neofolk influences with experimental and electronic pop. Its later work draws more strongly on French chanson and American folk traditions. The lyrics often address anarchism, freedom and equal rights.

Recordings and labels

Rome signs to the Swedish label CMI in 2006. On that label it releases the EP Berlin and the albums Nera, Confessions d'un voleur d'ames and Masse Mensch Material.

In 2009 the group moves to the German label Trisol, where it issues the EP To Die Among Strangers and the album Flowers From Exile. The EP L'assassin follows in 2010, shortly before a hiatus, and the full-length Nos chants perdus is released afterwards. In 2011 Reuter records and releases the trilogy Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit on Trisol.

Line-up and touring

By 2011 Reuter is touring with Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani.
