Romare

Romare is the alias of Archie Fairhurst, a British electronic producer and DJ. He builds tracks from samples taken from second-hand records, a method that develops after he starts using turntables and making his own music from recorded fragments.

Fairhurst studies African American Visual Culture at university, and the work of artist Romare Bearden shapes his approach. Bearden’s collage technique influences him to treat sampling as a form of musical collage, combining his own material with borrowed sounds and found recordings.

Romare works in electronic music, with styles including downtempo and house.
