Romance

Romance is a Seattle post-punk band active since 2005. Their sound is described as drawing on new wave, post-punk, punk and rock, with indie rock and post-punk revival also associated with the group. They form in late 2005 and build their early reputation around a style linked to early 1980s post-punk, with comparisons made to Joy Division, The Chameleons and The Sound.

Career

The band releases its debut EP, When Things Are Better, soon after forming. The EP features the single “Paris Is Burning”, which receives regular airplay on KEXP and other radio stations. As a result, fans vote the band among Seattle’s top four up-and-coming acts.

Romance later goes through a line-up change with the addition of drummer Joshua Fant, who previously plays with Post Stardom Depression. The group then releases its debut album, The Divide, in 2008. The record enters rotation on several indie radio stations, and the song “Face On The Sun” is selected as KEXP’s song of the day.

Performances and touring

Romance tours extensively and appears at a number of high-profile shows and festivals. Their live dates include support slots for The Chameleons, Peter Murphy and The Sisters of Mercy, as well as performances at SXSW and Bumbershoot.
