Roger Eno
Roger Eno is an ambient composer and multi-instrumentalist from Woodbridge, United Kingdom, born in 1959. He begins euphonium lessons at the age of twelve and studies music at Colchester College from the age of sixteen. After graduating, he spends a period busking in London before returning to Colchester to run a music therapy course at a local hospital for people with mental handicaps.
His first recording experience comes through working with his brother Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois on the album Apollo at Lanois’ Grant Avenue Studios in Canada. He then releases his first solo album, Voices. Although often identified mainly as a pianist, he also sings and plays several instruments, which is reflected in his later solo recordings and collaborations.
Collaborations and associated projects
Eno works with a number of other artists, including Bill Nelson, No-Man, Lol Hammond, Peter Hammill, Tim Bowness and Michael Brook. His co-written album The Familiar with Kate St John is presented as the most successful of these collaborations. He is also a member of Channel Light Vessel and Tim Robbins & The Rogues Gallery Band.
Film, performance and labels
He performs live occasionally and continues to write soundtracks. His music appears in films including Nine and a Half Weeks, Warm Summer Rain and The Jacket, and his tracks are also used in advertisements for Nissan and Japan Railways. He records solo albums for the UK internet label Burning Shed and establishes an online shop through the label.
