Roger De Courcey is a British ventriloquist from London, born in 1944, best known for performing with the puppet Nookie Bear. He wins the 1976 television talent competition New Faces. De Courcey starts out training as an opera singer, then develops his ventriloquism while working on a musical on the London stage.

Career

Nookie Bear gains a measure of success on television and on the cabaret circuit. De Courcey also records the single “Nookie’s Song” for Pye in 1976; it appears in a picture sleeve but does not chart.

Performance style

He is noted for his stage presentation, including wearing jumpers to balance his bald head and moustache, and for his ventriloquial delivery, including the catchphrase-style “gottle-of-geer”.
