Rochelle Jordan

Rochelle Jordan is a UK-born, Los Angeles-based R&B singer and songwriter, raised on the east side of Toronto. Her work sits in alternative R&B and related pop-influenced territory, with a style that combines melody-led writing, layered production and feminist themes. She is associated with Rojoproto Publishing and Protostar Entertainment.

Early releases and reputation

Jordan builds a cult following through a series of releases including ROJO, the Origins EP, PRESSURE and 1021. These recordings bring her critical attention from outlets including Billboard and The Fader, as well as wider blog coverage. Her music also receives award nominations and airplay from SiriusXM, MOBO and the BBC.

Collaborations and notable songs

After moving to Los Angeles, Jordan writes and performs on Childish Gambino’s Grammy-nominated Because the Internet, contributing the single “Telegraph Ave”. Her 2012 track “Losing” later appears as the basis for IamSu!’s song of the same name. In early 2014, her single “Follow Me” reaches number one on Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart.

Later work and other credits

Jordan also releases the KLSH-produced single “Lowkey”, following a preview of new material produced by Illangelo, who is known for work with Drake and The Weeknd. She provides the voice of Cindy in Adult Swim’s Black Dynamite episode “How Honeybee Got Her Groove Back”. Her fourth album, Play with the Changes, is released after a long delay caused by health complications and a stagnant record deal, and includes the single “Next 2 You”.
