Robert Mizzell is an American-born Irish country singer from Shreveport, Ireland, born in 1970. He makes his home in Ireland and lives near Mullingar in County Westmeath.

Career

Mizzell grows up around Lake Bistineau in Louisiana, where he develops an interest in country music. After graduating from Doyline High School, he serves in the US Army and works in several jobs before moving to Ireland, where he continues to pursue a country music career.

He becomes established on the Irish country scene and tours widely, with airplay across Europe and in Australia. His live performances are often with his band, The Country Kings.

Recordings

His debut album, Hello Mr DJ, includes his first major hit, “Kick Ass Country”, and “Say You Love Me”, which receives substantial radio play in Ireland and becomes a frequent request at his shows.

His second album, Lookin’ Lucky, is released in the United States as Place Beyond The Sun. It is recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and features original country songs written by Irish and American songwriters.

His third album, Louisiana Man, includes “Don’t Wake Me Up (Till We Touch Down in Shannon)”, a significant hit written by Walter Cunningham, and “Walk The Line - Revisited”, a duet with his father, Richard. The album also includes a Christmas bonus track, “The Greatest Gift Of All”.

On his fourth album, Waltzing With Me, tracks include “Who’s Gonna Dance With Sally Ann”, “You’re Why God Made Me”, and “Louisiana Saturday Night”. The album produces two number-one singles on the ECMA chart.

His fifth album, Thanks A Lot, combines newer and older material and uses Ernest Tubb’s “Thanks A Lot” as its title track. He presents it as a way of thanking his supporters.

The Louisiana Man Hits is a compilation released with the same track listing as the DVD The Louisiana Man, which collects music videos filmed in Ireland and America, outtakes, and tour footage from the 2008 Walk The Line tour.

Collaborations and singles

Mizzell records “Murder on Music Row” with Collin Raye after discussing the song with him at a gig in Dublin. The track is recorded at Spout Studio in Granard, County Longford, with Jonathan Owens producing and arranging it.

His charting singles include “Don’t Wake Me Up (Till We Touch Down in Shannon)”, “You’re Why God Made Me”, “You’re Waltzing With Me”, and “Thanks A Lot”, all of which reach notable positions on the ECMA chart, with “Thanks A Lot” spending three weeks at number one.
