Robbing Millions

Robbing Millions is a Belgian indie group from Brussels, active since 2013. The project is led by Lucien Fraipont, and its line-up also includes Gaspard Ryelandt on voice and artwork, Léo Dupleix on keys, Laurens Smet on bass, and Jakob Warmenbol on drums.

Style and sound

The group makes dreamy, psychedelic music built on syncopated rhythms, angular guitars and breezy lo-fi synths. Its songs draw on a wide set of references, including Can, Robert Wyatt, Pavement, Grandaddy and The Flaming Lips. The music also has a visual, playful quality, with songs that combine pop structures, prog elements, jazz guitar touches and distorted guitar leads.

Early releases

Robbing Millions begins with the self-released six-track debut EP Ages & Sun. Tracks on the release include “Tenshinhan”, “Ages & Sun”, “Cellophane” and “I Didn’t Realize”.

Performances and recognition

The group plays venues including the AB in Brussels, where it supports Palma Violets, as well as MOD in Hasselt and l’Escalier in Liège. It also appears at Les Nuits Botaniques, Les Ardentes, Dour, Boomtown and Deep In The Woods. In 2013, it wins the Verdur Rock competition as best new band. “Tenshinhan” is selected by Radio 1 in Flanders through Vi.be and enters rotation on Studio Brussel. Robbing Millions is also artist in residence at Ancienne Belgique for the 2013–2014 season.
