Ripper

Ripper is a heavy metal band from Houston, Texas, USA. It is active from 1977 to the present and is associated with thrash metal, heavy metal, death metal, horror metal and death thrash metal.

History and recordings

The band forms in 1976 according to its early history, and it releases one demo tape in 1985 and one LP in 1986 on Iron Works. It also appears on Metal Blade’s 1987 compilation Metal Massacre VIII.

Other uses of the name

The name Ripper also appears on a 2022 EP, Return To Death Row, by Tim Ripper Owens. That release features Nick Bellmore and Charlie Bellmore on guitar, with Chris Beaudette on bass.

Another group using the name is a death/thrash metal band from Talagante in Chile’s Santiago Metropolitan Region. That version of Ripper is active from 2007 and has guitarist and lead singer Patricio Spalinger as its sole constant member, with José Piutrín and Diego Armijo joining on bass and guitar in 2019. Since 2008, it releases four demos, two compilations, two EPs, two full-length albums and appears on three splits.
