Rio

Rio is an Italian pop-rock band from Italy, active from 2001 to the present. The group is also associated with AOR, melodic rock and 1980s-style hard rock, and its sound is described as refined hard rock with a distinct AOR edge.

Line-up and earlier history

The band includes guitarist Marco Ligabue, who is the brother of Luciano Ligabue. Before taking the name Rio, the group forms in the early 1980s under the name Bombay. It changes its name to Rio when it becomes clear that an American act already uses the name Bombay. Jon Neil, also known as Jon Willoughby, from Black Tiger and Verity, Steve Rodford, formerly of Duchess, and Dave Kilminster are part of that earlier line-up.

Recordings

Rio releases the albums Borderland and Sex Crimes. It also issues the single and EP I Don’t Wanna Be The Fool and Atlantic Radio.
