Riley Green is an American country singer-songwriter from Jacksonville, United States, born in 1988. He records for BMLG Records and is associated with contemporary country and modern country rock.
Career
Green first draws wide attention with his self-titled EP in 2018, released through Big Machine Label Group. His writing and singing focus on direct, relatable country themes, with a classic feel and an emphasis on songs about home, family and everyday life.
His best-known songs include “There Was This Girl,” which becomes a number one platinum hit, and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” which is certified three-times platinum and which he performs live at the 55th ACM Awards. He also reaches number one with “Half of Me,” a collaboration with Thomas Rhett.
“Different ‘Round Here,” the title track of his 2019 debut album, becomes his third number one single. He later re-records the song with Luke Combs after noticing how strongly listeners connect with it. Combs also features on the track.
Albums and touring
Green’s third studio album, Don’t Mind If I Do, is produced by Dann Huff. The 18-track album includes five songs written solely by Green, including “Jesus Saves,” “Worst Way” and the title track. Ella Langley features on the title track, reuniting Green with his “you look like you love me” duet partner and recent tourmate.
He also heads his own Ain’t My Last Rodeo tour, bringing out Tracy Lawrence and Ella Langley. Earlier, in 2023, he serves as direct support for Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs, playing to large arena and stadium crowds.
Background and recognition
Before his music career, Green is an avid sports fan and former athlete, and he plays quarterback at Jacksonville State University. He continues to live in his hometown of Jacksonville, Alabama.
He is named the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year in 2020. He is also a former MusicRow Breakout Artist of the Year and a CMT “Listen Up Artist,” and he is one of CRS’s 2020 New Faces.
