Ridney
Ridney is a British house music DJ and producer from the United Kingdom. He first gains wider attention in 1997, when local friend James Zabiela hears one of his early mix tapes and asks him to play a regular slot at a night in a Southampton venue.
Early career
Ridney begins producing in early 2000 and appears in several production groups before his first notable success as a songwriter, co-writing Your Love for Scarpi in 2004. He continues to release singles and remixes through the middle of the decade.
Radio support and recognition
In October 2006, Ridney is invited to provide a producer guest mix for the Trophy Twins on their BBC Radio 1 show. His productions and remixes in 2007 and 2008 receive support on Pete Tong’s Fast Trax show, and he appears there five times. At the end of 2007, he is voted one of the four top Bedroom Bedlam producers.
Breakthrough releases
In July 2008, Ridney earns his first Essential New Tune on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. His collaboration with James Talk, Sunshyne, is named Track of the Year in Carl Cox’s selection in the Top 100 edition of DJ Magazine.
Work with James Talk
Ridney and James Talk later receive two more Essential New Tune awards on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. Their version of West End Girls, a remake of the Pet Shop Boys track, receives the honour on 17 July 2009. Their disco-sampling track Forever also receives an Essential New Tune nod on 5 March 2010.
Solo releases
As a solo artist, Ridney releases At Night on Defected Records in 2010. The track receives support from DJs including Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Eddie Thoenick, Robbie Rivera and Dirty South.
