Rick Redbeard

Rick Redbeard is the solo project of Scottish folk singer Rick Anthony, an Aberdeen-born musician, singer and songwriter based in Glasgow. He is also the lead singer and guitarist in the alternative rock band The Phantom Band.

Solo work

Redbeard begins as an outlet for Anthony’s quieter and more introspective writing, but develops into a separate body of work in its own right. The songs are described as drawing on a warm, intimate style, with an emphasis on comforting and reflective material. Anthony says he is drawn to music that soothes rather than depresses, and he wants his songs to feel like kind words from an old friend.

Albums and style

The second Rick Redbeard album, Awake Unto, is released by Chemikal Underground. His work is associated with folk, indie folk and indie, alongside his wider role in alternative rock through The Phantom Band.
