Richy Pitch

Richy Pitch is a DJ and producer associated with rap, hip-hop and afrobeat. He first builds his name in 1996 as resident DJ at Scratch, a London hip-hop club night. He goes on to record and produce in the United States with MCs including J-Live, El da Sensei, Mr Complex, Asheru and Apani B.

He records the Live at Home LP on New York label Sevenheads, which is described as critically acclaimed. He also works in library music and ghost production for television and film, with music used in Japan and the US on ABC and Fox, and on programmes including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Daily Show, Mona the Vampire and America's Most Wanted.

In 2006 he compiles two releases for Unisex, a label associated with Demon Music Group. One of these is East Coast Hip Hop - The Soulside, a compilation inspired by his DJ sets at the Jazz Cafe and featuring artists such as Talib Kweli, The Pharcyde, The Roots and Slum Village. In December 2006 he moves to Ghana, where he lives for more than two years and records an album released on BBE Records in 2010.

That Ghana project features Samini, Reggie Rockstone, Wanlov the Kubolor, M.anifest, Mensa, Yasmeen, Sena, Gouda Traditional Music and Kwesi Dankwa. The record leads to involvement with Africa Express, for which he becomes a regular contributor as a DJ and producer at live shows in Spain, France and the UK. Through his connection with music director Remi Kabaka, he later works with Gorillaz Sound System and serves as its show DJ, also producing and remixing Gorillaz songs for live performances.
