Richie Campbell

Richie Campbell is the stage name of Ricardo Ventura da Costa, a Portuguese reggae and dancehall singer. He is also listed as a voice actor. He is associated with reggae and dancehall styles and is known for performing live with a backing band.

Career

He starts out in 2010 with the band Stepacide and also takes part in the project No Joke Sound System. Later in 2010, he leaves both projects to focus on a solo career. That same year he releases his debut album, My Path, which is made available for free download, and he also releases an EP in the sixth Optimus Discos series, run by Henrique Amaro.

He gains wider attention with the album Focused. The track “That’s How We Roll” stands out from that release and is nominated for the 2013 Golden Globes. In 2012 he begins the Focused tour.

Live releases and later work

His final concerts on that tour are in Porto and Lisbon, where he records Live at Campo Pequeno. That recording is released in 2014 on CD and DVD. On 4 May 2015 he releases In the 876 without prior announcement. The album is recorded in Kingston and Lisbon, and its title refers to the Jamaican telephone code. It reaches the iTunes sales chart top in under two hours.

Band

Richie Campbell performs and sings live with The 911 Band. The group is described as a reggae backing band in Portugal, and its members include musicians from One Sun Tribe, Kussondulola and One Love Family.
