Richard Wood
Richard Wood is a Prince Edward Island folk fiddler and pianist. He builds a career over more than two decades and performs across Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe and Japan. He also works as an artist, composer and entertainer.
Career and performances
Wood appears on television with Shania Twain on David Letterman and Good Morning America. Other notable performances include Carnegie Hall with The Chieftains, CBC’s Canada Day on Parliament Hill, Rita MacNeil and Friends, and Celtic Electric with Jean Butler of Riverdance. He also performs for Canada’s prime minister and governor general, the Queen of England in Toronto, and the Emperor of Japan in Tokyo.
In the late 1990s he tours the UK and Europe, headlining concert halls and folk festivals. He later performs at Lincoln Centre in New York City, Epcot at Disney World, and as a featured performer in the touring fiddle show Bowfire. He also entertains Canada’s armed forces in Bosnia and twice in Afghanistan.
Recordings and recognition
Wood has five previous CD recordings. He wins three East Coast Music Awards, and MacLean’s Magazine names him one of the Top 100 Canadians to watch in the 21st century.
