Background

The project develops around soul, country and house-influenced material. The artist information linked to the name also presents Ricco Torrid as a performer shaped by a wide range of musical influences, including American soul, Motown, blues, jazz, country and western, and alternative music. In that account, he is described as born in Kingston, educated in London, and later based in London.

Musical influences and approach

The project’s stated outlook draws on vocal-led music and on songs associated with what is described as an earlier era of singers. The material emphasises soul and country ballads, and one track, “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone,” is described as an original built from a Baltimore jam session recording. Another song, “Make It Easy On Yourself,” is noted for being recorded in one take.

Other projects and releases

The artist description mentions two online projects, “Dolls To Lypstyck” and “Urban Meets Country Classics,” along with singles connected to those projects. It also refers to work producing projects for other artists, including some described as emerging performers.

Film and writing

Ricco is also described as an award-winning filmmaker. The films “Eddy’s Fantasy” and “Colony 639” both receive festival awards. His published work includes Cuttin Up, described as cartoon humour, and Lottery By The Weather, written under the name Rex Torid.

In spare time, Ricco enjoys golf, fishing and training his dog Pepi. Part of the proceeds from sales go toward helping to feed homeless people.
