Revocation

Revocation are a metal group from Boston, United States, active since 2000. They play a form of death metal and thrash metal that also draws on technical death metal, technical thrash metal, melodic death metal and progressive metal, combining the speed and aggression of old-school thrash with complex musicianship.

History

The band forms from Cryptic Warning and works with a line-up that includes Anthony Buda, David Davidson, Phil Dubois-Coyne, Dan Gargiulo, Brett Bamberger, Alex Rüdinger and Ash Pearson. David Davidson is a central figure in the group, and Dan Gargiulo joins as a touring guitarist.

Revocation release two demos before their first full-length album, Sanity's Abberation. They follow this with the EP Summon the Spawn, then the album Empire of the Obscene on Relapse Records. Two more albums follow, Existence is Futile and Chaos of Forms, both released to positive reception. In 2012, the band appears on a Relapse Records label showcase album.

Touring and style

After adding Dan Gargiulo for touring, Revocation play extensively, performing 150 shows in 13 countries before entering the studio to record Chaos of Forms. Their material includes tracks such as “No Funeral”, “Conjuring the Cataclysm” and “Cretin”, and their sound is marked by technical skill and fast, aggressive riffing.
