Reverend Robert is a blues musician focused on prewar styles, drawing especially on the work of Charley Patton, Robert Johnson and other Delta blues figures. He also works in early twentieth-century ragtime, early jazz, Hawaiian music and Caribbean styles, combining them with acoustic arrangements and a rhythm-driven approach.

In 2004, he takes first place at the National Slide Guitar Festival in North Carolina. His playing is associated with a strong sense of conviction and a powerful delivery.
